ENG 110 B

ENG 110 B

Official Course Description: “This course introduces students to writing as a conscious and developmental activity. Students learn to read, think, and write in response to a variety of texts, to integrate their ideas with those of others, and to treat writing as a recursive process. Through this work with texts, students are exposed to a range of reading and writing techniques they can employ in other courses. Students work individually and collaboratively, participate in peer review, and learn to take more responsibility for their writing development. Placement into this course is determined by multiple measures, including high school achievement and SAT scores.”

Personal Description: Students primarily focus in learning to analyze, compare, and understand different texts. Students are expected to improve their ability in writing throughout the course. Drafts for each essay are corrected by other students in the class instead of the professor. Each student must give an in depth review to other peers in order to receive credit for peer review. Everybody in the class was an undeclared major at the start of the semester, and we had to pick a major of interest to analyze. We were also required to conduct a personal interview with someone at UNE in that field to discover more. As a final project we are creating a website that showcases everything we have done over the semester. The website is an extensive in depth look at the course through the student’s perspective.
